- In this ARC file (which should be named BUT203.ARC) you should find all
- the files needed to execute ModemButler version 2.03. Version 2.03 fixes
- some bugs in the file transfer routines. Specifically, when you did a
- Batch file transfer (either with Ymodem or Modem7), the screen windows would
- not behave properly. It should now work. Also, version 2.03 now detects if
- your BUTLER.DEF file is from the proper version. If it isn't, the program
- will alert you, delete the old .DEF file, and write a new one out to disk.
- This eliminates the need from previous versions of deleting your old
- BUTLER.DEF file before executing a new version of ModemButler.
-
- Enjoy!

- README.1ST from BUT202.ARC (ModemButler version 2.02)

-
- In this archive file (which should be named BUT202.ARC) you should find all
- the files needed to execute ModemButler version 2.02. The major addition
- to version 2.02 is full and sophisticated support for the full ATX4 Hayes
- modem command set. If your modem claims to be "Hayes Compatible" and can
- detect not only carrier/no carrier messages, but busy signals, dial tones,
- etc., then you can now have ModemButler detect those extended call status
- messages from your modem. Not all modems have this, but all recently made
- Hayes SmartModem 1200 and 2400 units do. BUTINST has two new parameters
- because of call status detection; one which sets whether the Extended mode
- is to be used, and the other to specify the initialization string to the
- modem to enter the extended mode. If you set the first question to no,
- ModemButler should perform exactly the same as previous versions.
-
- As always, please contact me with your comments/suggestions!

- P.S. I also fixed a small bug pointed out by someone (sorry but I don't
- remember your name!) in a message to me on the bbs. He rightly
- claimed that the phone number string was too short for any numbers.
- Well, now you can have up to 100 characters in each phone number you
- specify. Thanks for alerting me to the problem.

- README.1ST from BUT201.ARC (ModemButler version 2.01)
-
- March 28, 1986
-
- In this archive file you should find all of the files needed to execute
- ModemButler version 2.01. It has labels and a redesigned DIAL command,
- among other things. As with any new release of ModemButler, delete your
- old BUTLER.DEF file the first time you run BUTLER. If you don't, this could
- cause an error.

- Enjoy!

- README.1ST from BUT200.ARC (ModemButler version 2.00)
-
- March 13, 1986
-
- In this archive file you should find all of the files needed to execute
- ModemButler version 2.00. Before I briefly describe the files, first a
- word about ModemButler.
-
- Quite simply, ModemButler is for communications what batch files are for
- DOS. The code for v2.0 is totally new and re-written, with tons and tons
- of new features and fixed bugs. A summary of all of the available commands
- is in the text file BUTLER.DOC.
-
- The files you should find in this .ARC file are:
-
- BUTINST.COM ModemButler installation program .COM file
- BUTINST.DOC Docs for BUTINST - modify installation editor
- BUTINST.PIC BUTINST data file
- BUTINST.PKT BUTINST packet data file
- BUTLER.000 ModemButler overlay code
- BUTLER.CMD ModemButler command data file
- BUTLER.COM ModemButler program .COM file
- BUTLER.DOC ModemButler temporary short documentation
- BUTLER.PIC ModemButler data file
- README.1ST This text file
-
- If you don't have any of the above files, ModemButler may not work properly.
- If you can't find a full .ARC file on your local BBS, you can always find
- the latest complete version of ModemButler on:
- the railroad bbs (516) 741-6914
-
- Since this is a totally new program from earlier Butler versions, different
- bugs or ones that were fixed in previous versions might resurface in this
- version. Reports of bugs, questions or other malfunctions can be done in
- the following ways:
-
- 1. Leave a message (via the E command) on the railroad bbs
- (516-741-6914) for ANDREW BRENNER. Be sure to succinctly and
- clearly state the problem, as well as your hardware setup
- (if you think that's relevant). I'll try to get back to you as
- soon as possible. If you leave your phone number in the message,
- I'll get back to you by phone. While you are on the board, do a
- (L)ocate command as follows:
- L;BUT*.* <enter>
- If you see an .ARC file that's more recent than the one you are
- having the problem with, download it. Your problem might be fixed
- in the newer version.
- 2. Call me after 4:00 pm Eastern time weekdays at (516) 764-5248 or
- (516) 764-8970. I'm usually around on weekends, too (just don't
- call at 6:00 am).
- 3. Write me a letter at the address below. Be sure to include all
- the relevant information, and I'll get back to you ASAP.

-
- Thanks to all of you who have given me feedback on the previous versions
- of ModemButler. Hope you find the program useful!

-
- P.S. I'm planning to include in the next release a utility to convert
- Qmodem script files to ModemButler command files. Also, I am adding
- a label facility soon.
